Artist Biography
Angelyn Smolders has been journeying through a camera lens for over 20 years. Her father gave her a Canon Ftb, her first camera, when she was 17 years old and she has never looked back. Many hours were spent in photographing landscapes, fine art, architecture and portraits; numerous hours were spent in a traditional black and white darkroom. Angelyn has always had a passion for photography and it is a rare occasion to see her without a camera in front of her eyes or hanging around her neck in anticipation of the next image to capture.
In September of 2012, she furthered the enthusiasm she had for photography and enrolled in the full time Digital Photography diploma program at Lambton College. She completed her first year on the Dean’s Honour List. Angelyn was awarded First Place in the Unclassified Category of the Lambton College’s Digital Photography Image Challenge and Second Place in The Mary Webb Exhibit in March 2014.
Angelyn’s work has been published in numerous marketing materials for Prime Pubs Inc. and The Pick Brothers Band to name a few and has been shown at the Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Sarnia, Ontario.
Angelyn enjoys ‘capturing the moment’ in live music photography due to the passion she has had for music that began as a young child. In a recent series, she has captured musical instruments in a unique fashion; a series entitled ‘Musical Intimacy’. In her other works such as architecture and travel, Angelyn’s images have a 'wabi sabi' feel; this translates into seeing the beauty in fallen and decrepit architecture and objects. Angelyn hopes that you see the beauty in her works as well. Namaste.
